Determined, intelligent, lively, curious, outspoken, kind and generous are only a few of the adjectives to describe AAPA member Marcia Lord who passed away October 22 at the Hopital Pompidou in Paris, reports Harriet Welty Rochefort, her friend of 47 years.

A Chicago native, Marcia graduated from Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism where she was a Phi Beta Kappa and after moving to Paris at age 23 spent her entire professional career at UNESCO as an international civil servant. She started her career as a program specialist in the Section of Book Promotion and Development and spent the last ten years before her retirement in 2000 as the Editor-in-Chief of the periodical MUSEUM International.  Writes her former editorial assistant Christine Wilkinson: « Marcia’s door was constantly open to colleagues and, whenever she could, she would help and advise colleagues particularly the younger ones. »

A committed Democrat and opera fan who enthusiastically attended and supported opera related AAPA events, Marcia loved travelling and was a dear friend to many all over the world. She was an active member of the MJLF temple in Paris.

She is survived by two brothers, Sanford Lord and Maurice Lord, in Chicago.

Funeral services will be held at the crematorium of the Père Lachaise cemetery on Wednesday, October 29, at 4 PM.  For those who wish to make a contribution in her name, Harriet will supply a list of charities. AAPA coordinator Maria Vincenza Aloisi (angloamericanparis@gmail.com) will supply Harriet’s contact details on request.
